We left the word 'birdwatcher' unchanged. Because everybody knows what it means and the word 'birdobserver' is never used. The more common word 'birdwatcher' in our opinion doesn't say enough about the arrangement. Gambia is known because of the birdlife. Nowhere in the world in such a small area you will find such a large diversity of birds. Not without reason ornithologists from all over the world come to The Gambia to make observations. Because of that regurarly new examples are added to the already impressive list of birdspecies. GambiaTravel has excellent relations in the community of birdexperts in The Gambia. They will take you around in the hope of showing you a large part of the approximately 450 birdspecies that fly around in The Gambia. To realise this you you will have to go into Gambia, although in the coastal area also are about 325 species detectable. The arrangement underneath is just a proposal, if you want we can make it shorter or extend the trip. If you want to stay longer in Tendaba or want to skip JanjangBureh
(Georgetown)? That is possible! Do you only want a week and than especially on the coast? No problem! If you want to practise your hobby more inland and extend it to the coast? Tell us, GambiaTravel also arranges in this area a trip specially made to your wishes.
The arrangement GambiaTravel offers you a 15-days arrangement. As starting point we've selected Paradise Inn Lodge in Tanji, a typical fishingvillage. From this base you will make daytrips, from there you will go further inland.
Our proposal: day 01 - Flight to Gambia and transfer to the lodge, during a welcomingdrink you will get acquainted with the (Englishspeaking) guide that will accompany you during your stay and your roundtrip.
day 02 - You'll go 'hunting' after the first (strange) birds in the surroundings of Tanji, along the river Madiana and the Tanji birdreservation.
day 03 - On this day you'll get acquainted with the surroundings of the capital Banjul, the Abuko nature reserve and the surroundings of Kotu (= 'creek").
day 04 - You'll stay relatively close to home, today is the area of Pirang on the program, a journey through the bush of Faraba-Banta and we try to discover the nightjar.
day 05 - the surroundings of the airport and the backlands of Yundum are known because of the large diversity of birds.
day 06 - Today you'll stay on the coast with amongst others a journey through the woods of Brufut and a visit to the Bijilo park.
day 07 en 08 - After the breakfast you will go about 150 kilometers inland, to Tendaba, one of the richest bird areas of Gambia. It is situaded on the boarder of the Kiang West National Park and on the river Gambia, an perfect area for the birdlover. With a piroque you will cross the river to visit the bolongs with the mangrovewoods where many different birdspecies are present.
day 09 en 10 - The trip will be continued to JanjangBureh, the former Georgetown. The island is not only known because of the slavetrade that was runned from overhere or because of the chiefsschool, but nowadays luckily in the first place because to the nature where land as well as waterbirds feel more than at home.
day 11 and 12 - The most exclusive birds you will find in Basse, short for Basse Santa Su. Located by the river Gambia, that here already lost the most important part of the width, it looks like the the creme de fleur of the birds are holding themselves up in these surroundings.
day 13 and 14 - Back to the coast. In a good mid range hotel you can rest and enjoy from all that you came across on your way and in front of your camera.
dag 15 - Transfer back to the airport and return to the Netherlands.
