A sportfisher wants to know what he gets on his hook. The most imaginative fish is without any doubt the barracuda. This also appears in the inland waterways as well as on the outside, but if it's good fishing there depends on the season. Spectaculair is the catch of a ladyfish or a captainfish, but also for a butterfish you can take your time before you wheeled it in. In many cases the boat has to be loosend from the anchor to follow the fish. Because a captainfish of fourty pounds you do not hoist on board that easy. And what to think about a tarpoon of 150 pounds or more? In such a case the crew goes in the water, measures the fish to find out how much it weighs and after that gives back the fish his freedom.

In short, you will catch more fish than you are used to. There are some very mean specimens between them, the bite of a seasnake for instance can have extraordinary nasty consequenses, the sting of a catfish or that of a sting-ray is less dramatic but eventhough it can bother you for days.

Holidays on a boat Many have tried to organize boatholidays in The Gambia. Gambia is also the name of the beautiful river with on both sides a lot of vegetation where hundreds of different birds live. A river where dolphins, crocodiles and hippos live in? Until now there are a few who succeeded to offer a holiday on a boat that really catched on. GambiaTravel proves that it is possible!
Don't expect a luxerious saloonboat. Not yet at least. Within a few years our most important relation in the area of fishing and boat holidays has the disposal of a ship that will transport you over the river in a luxurious way, with complete care on board and on which cabins are equiped with airconditioning. For the somewhat adventurous naturelover GambiaTravel created the unique possiblity to discover the country from of the river. With a piroque, the traditional boat from the Gambians (once introduced by the Portuguese), on a boat from Lamin Lodge or Denton Bridge as far as Basse Duma Su. There is little comfort on board and certainly no relaxing seats, the lunch will be provided in the shape of a picknick. Regurarly you will go on land to visit a village or the boat will be diverted from the river to make a small detour through one of the attractive bolong. The nights will be spend in one of the camps along the river, so that you are insured of a good meal, a comfortable night's rest and a fresh start of the day. The trip is not at all tiring.
The trip is made with small groups. If you want you can make the trip back over the road. With this trip the Gambia Exclusive formula is valid: the guests can talk over the the program with us they want and how they want it. The total length of the journey is five or six days, depending on the way you travel back.
